Migrating from GarageSale 6

  • GarageSale 7 has a new application identifier and uses its on database and 'Application Support folders, so you can run it along side GS 6 without side-effects
  • it should import your GS 6 library and your accounts (this process may take a while upon first launch)

How to import your GarageSale 6 library again

Sometimes there a bugs discovered and fixed in the component that migrates your GarageSale 6 library to GarageSale 7’s new format. If the bug effects you, here is how to run to import process again:

  1. Export any listing you created in GarageSale 7 and want to keep
  2. Quit GarageSale 7
  3. Rename the folder at ‘Library/Containers/com.iwascoding.garagesale7’ in your home directory to something like ‘com.iwascoding.garagesale7-old’
  4. Restart GarageSale 7
  5. Import any listings you exported in step #1

What’s still missing

  • localized user interface for languages other than English
  • a user manual
  • fixes for yet undiscovered bugs

Thanks for using GarageSale,
Ilja on behalf of the iwascoding team

I’ve had some more listings have the preview editor completely break, still can’t see any pattern, but once broken I’ve found no way to restore it short of starting the listing from scratch again.

I wanted to reimport my 6.9.7 listings in the new 7 Beta 23. So i deleted the gs7 container folder in my library, started the fresh downloaded 7 beta 23 and chose “enter licence” in the following screen. I couldn´t enter my gs7 license number, it lead to the me the “Welcome to Garasale” screen where I could chose “Start with empty library” and “Import Database”. Trying to click in “Import” did not result in a visible click-repsonse on that button and now since a fewminutes I have spinning beachball…
With a second attempt (deleted gs7 container folder again), it skipped the “enter licence” screen, It showed the “import” screen with the same result: When I click on the Import button, it gets a bit darker, stays that way and the beach ball starts.
I have about 300 listings in the gs 6.9.7 library.

Addition: Starting without importing works. As the import is not vital for me at the moment, its not a problem, but something went wrong here. With the first beta version I installed (don ´t know which it was exactly, maybe 6 or 7?) import worked fine.

Do you see anything in the Console utility (under /Applications/Utilities) when clicking the import library button?

Theres a spindump / spinreport in the console. Should I mail that?

Probably not connected to this issue, but it might be interesting nevertheless.

Its a bit large, can you give me a mailaddress where I can send it?

Another problem here:
I bought my upgrade license to gs7 on march 3. When I enter that license code in gs7 b23, it accepts that, tells me “Thank you for registering GarageSale. The limitations of the unregistered version have been removed.”.
But when I open “about gs” is says “Licensed to: Unlicensed”. When i the reopen the “enter license” dialog, my license is still there. But when I start an auction it reminds me that I use the demo version that only allows three auctions to be started.

Replying to myself: I deleted everything referring to gs7 (prefs, container and so on), now it seems it accepted the license.

Another thing for gs7: It would be VERY nice to have a button within the media browser to directly access the harddrive/file browser. I know I can drag a folder to the media browser. But to do that within the full-screen mode, it forces me to first quit the full screen mode to be able to drag a folder from the finder.

Make sure you always restart your Mac after deleting the preferences files. Newer version of OS X have buggy preferences caching, with doesn’t immediately recognize when you manually modify or delete an application’s preferences file.

Found a new crash.

Enter an invalid value into shipping ( eg, 2,85 rather than 2.85 ), correctly complains about this being invalid and asks to enter a valid value, but the sheet closes, and when click on postage again makes error sound and shortly after crashes.

Seems nobody at Apple tested this format error panel when the effected text field is contained in a popover. Now we have to find a way around it. :frowning:
