Migrating from GarageSale 6

  • GarageSale 7 has a new application identifier and uses its on database and 'Application Support folders, so you can run it along side GS 6 without side-effects
  • it should import your GS 6 library and your accounts (this process may take a while upon first launch)

How to import your GarageSale 6 library again

Sometimes there a bugs discovered and fixed in the component that migrates your GarageSale 6 library to GarageSale 7’s new format. If the bug effects you, here is how to run to import process again:

  1. Export any listing you created in GarageSale 7 and want to keep
  2. Quit GarageSale 7
  3. Rename the folder at ‘Library/Containers/com.iwascoding.garagesale7’ in your home directory to something like ‘com.iwascoding.garagesale7-old’
  4. Restart GarageSale 7
  5. Import any listings you exported in step #1

What’s still missing

  • localized user interface for languages other than English
  • a user manual
  • fixes for yet undiscovered bugs

Thanks for using GarageSale,

I have the newest version on 1 computer. I use Garage Sale on 2 computers. But GS is not accepting my code on the other computer…?

You need the family version. The single version is limited to 1 computer as far as I know.

I have 2 computers and can only use it on both with the family version, too.

During the upgrade the family version was about $17 or $19 for the beta upgrade.

You do not need a family license to register GarageSale on multiple machines for your personal use. You should write me a private message here or directly to our support (have a look at our website).

Thanks,
Paul

I wished I had known that, lol.

Do i miss something or am I a bit dumb (tats possible, too) but how do I update the order info if an item is shipped? I can click on “item shipped”, yes, I know that, but how do I transfer that info to ebay??? “Update Orders” did not change anything.

This should happen automatically at the moment you click the checkbox.

On this last update I notice that if you are on the properties windows and change to another item the Inspector window is set to Options. I would like it to remember which screen was open? Also, can you add an option to copy properties from one item to another?

Also, I am am having a lot of issues coping information into the info boxes for shipping, etc.

I have about 500 items ready to go upload, but I decided to drop the starting bid from $8 to $7. But I cannot change the price with the inspector. I highlight all of the listings and open the inspector and change the price, but it only actually changes the 1st listing.

The spinning ball is still an issue, especially when scrolling through pictures, or if I go to another app for a minute, or if I simply stop typing and then try to start again…

We’ll look into this.[quote=“Ray_Burg, post:9, topic:1282”]
Also, can you add an option to copy properties from one item to another?

That should be already possible: Right-click a listing in the outline view, and choose “Copy Listing Components”. Right click another listing, choose “Paste Listing Components”, and select “User Properties”.

Could you be more specific? What issues are you running into?

Are you talking about the AppleScript issue?

i don’t know what that is. i cannot currently change all the prices together – i would have to change them individually.

Can you be more specific on how you are trying to change the price? Do you use AppleScript or the regular inspector price field?

Please can you also make sure you have all the listings selected in the right overview/table view? Maybe this is an issue with the selection?

Thanks,
Paul

Ok, I understand now. It’s just a little different from GS 6. In GS 6, I highlighted all the listings on the left and they were automatically included when I opened the inspector. Now, I after I highlight all the listings on the left, I have to select them again in the big center window. And then the inspector works.

I’m glad to report that the scheduler now works MUCH better. For an auction of 500 items, I got a spinning ball for about 2 minutes only. There are some things that I’d still like to see work better: when there’s an error, searching in that little box is so much harder than it used to be, when the listings on the left would turn different colors. And, when I remove the listing with the error, it shouldn’t have to start over again and check everything again.

One thing I just realized I never asked about, but I was reminded today… For GS to recognize new photos that I have added to iphoto, I have to restart GS. I am uploading an auction all day. So I cannot work on preparing the next auction since the photos were not uploaded before I started. Is there a way to fix this?

2 minutes is still way too long. Could you make a “sample”, so we can see what GS is doing on your Mac while you see the beachball. Here is how to:

  1. Launch GarageSale if you don’t have it already running
  2. Open the Activity Monitor application (under /Application/Utilities)
  3. Select GarageSale from the list of running applications in Activity Monitor
  4. Now do something you are pretty sure that will cause the beachball to come up for several seconds
  5. Chose “View” menu > “Sample Process” (Activity Monitor will probably ask you for an admin password at this point)
  6. Wait while the sample is taken
  7. Save the sample output into a file and send it to us.[quote=“fonky1, post:16, topic:1282”]

Have you tried right-clicking the iPhoto entry and choosing “Reload” ?

I can try the activity monitor thing tomorrow, when it’s done uploading the auction. Regarding the photos – if GS is open and I then open iPhoto and upload a bunch of photos, they do not show up at all in GS. They should be in the “Last Import” folder, but they only show up there once I have restarted GS. They are not visible at all until I restart. (It has been this way with GS 6 also) I just tried to “reload” the last import file, but it doesn’t work. In fact, it shows 0 items in the folder, instead of the last import. Same with another folder, which, during the auction upload, has gone completely “?”. When I did “Reload” it now shows 0 items in that folder.

OK, weird. On my 1 computer, it doesn’t work, as I’ve described. On the other computer, it does update the photos… (or maybe they have different beta versions?)
