GarageSale 8.4 Alpha 9 Released

Dear GarageSale Users,

an new alpha release (a very early development release for preview) of the the upcoming GarageSale 8.4 is available for you from this address:

https://downloads.iwascoding.com/downloads/GarageSale_8.4a9.dmg

What’s new in this pre-release

  • fixed problem with duplicate description when posting on eBay (thanks @Neal )

General Notes about GarageSale 8.4

GarageSale 8.4 will be the first GarageSale version that support eBay’s new authorization method (OAuth), which is required to access any of the new APIs that eBay recently released (e.g. getting managed payment status, sending offers to watchers, attaching videos to listings).

Once you refreshed your eBay access token in GarageSale 8.4 from the Accounts section of the Preferences window, GarageSale will be able to ask eBay, if your account has managed payments enabled. If so, it won’t nag you to select a payment method or payment profile anymore.

If you are switching back to GarageSale 8.3.6, after having refreshed your token in GarageSale 8.4, you’ll will need to refresh your token in GS 8.3 once again.

What’s new in GarageSale 8.4

  • GarageSale no longer prompts for choosing a payment method if “Managed Payments” is activated for your eBay account (requires OAuth token, see above)
  • If you are using profiles for shipping or returns, GarageSale will no longer prompt you to select a Payment profile (requires OAuth token, see above)
  • Order section: New context menu entries in the order outline view to change order state (e.g. “shipped”) for selected orders
  • GarageSale will prevent you from starting auction-style listings, when the auto-cancel feature is enabled
  • Attributes window: enabled ‘autocompletes’ option for certain attributes (e.g. ‘Artist’ attribute in LP/Records section)
  • Synching: re-worked conflict algorithm to reduce the number of times the Conflict window appears
  • added AppleScript command to manipulate shipping weights
  • various crash fixes
  • text entered in the “user properties” area of the inspector is now searchable
  • new smart group rule for searching “user properties” content
  • GarageSale generates a ‘mobile summary’ from the first 800 characters of your listing description when uploading listings, which does not include GarageSale’s version identifier string
  • the ‘Reveal Original’ command is available from the overview context menu (middle area) in the listing section
  • the number of images used in a listing is shown in Editor mode
  • added new Preferences settings (under eBay > Advanced) that prevents automatic switching to ‘Live’ view when listings are started

This changes allow users to group similar listings using the same user property entry, and use smart groups to keep track of such item groups.

Thanks for using GarageSale,
The GarageSale team

Fixed for me on both macOS web site and iOS mobile app. For all 3: Revise, Relist, and Start.

Thanx!
Neal

Ilja. 8.4 v9 seems to have fixed the token issue I was having as I reported earlier yesterday. That token had the 2 part authorization and this one went in with only me entering my ebay password, (I think you mentioned that to someone else). I ended a listing and restarted it with no issues. FYI I also like the (!) if I accidentally click the auto cancel on an auction! BUT, it (!) goes away after about 20 or so seconds.

Took me a while to figure this one out:

When GarageSale starts a verify request with eBay, before you check the auto-cancel box on an auction listing, and then click that box while the request is still being processed, the response from eBay removed the local error and the error icon disappeared.

This should be fixed in the next release.

New find in alpha 9. When relisting an ended listing I get a red (!) that says payment policy is required. I clicked anyway since I DO have payment policy chosen. It goes up to ebay fine so it isn’t a debilitating problem but some people may be distraught when seeing it.

I had to go back to 8.3.6 because the red (!) wouldn’t allow me to start a new listing. I refreshed the token and got the same “Payment Policy is required” as I noted above. This was a new start the other listing above was a relist.

Are you opted in to managed payments on eBay? (Sorry if you answered this before, I cannot remember).

Yes, I have the option checked in GS as well. Runs perfect when I switched back to 8.3.6. (And refreshed the token)

Thanks for the confirmation. Still it’s odd that eBay requires a Payment profile to be selected, even though you are on managed payments? My impression was that with Managed Payment, specifying what payment methods you accept is a thing of the past, because it’s all handled by eBay now.

I’ve been managed payment since aug 2020. i assume its still a program issue that some one hasn’t removed and is still being asked for by ebay
