The change to the Search Box has really sped up searching. Almost immediate again.
Just have to remember to hit the RETURN key and not walk away to make a coffee till I have done so.
Well done.

Hi Warren,
Here is a link to upload your GarageSale.leveldb to. Please use the “Compress” command from the Finder’s context menu to turn that folder into a .zip file before uploading.
We are still on the fence about this feature. We are unsure if the complexity of the implementations and possible performance hick ups are really worth it…
Seems like it should not be that complex (Finder and Photos and other apps have done it for a long time), but I might be missing something…
When the new app version launches, do a database upgrade that adds the current date and time as a “dateMovedToTrash” field to all the listings and orders that are currently in the Trash.
From then on, when an item is moved to the Trash, add the current date and time as the “dateMovedToTrash” field to the listing or order. No need to ever unset this field even if the item is moved out of the trash. Just set it again when and if the item is moved back to the trash again.
Then have a Periodic Background task and Preference just like the “Update Orders and Listings” Preference that runs no less than once every 24 hours (or on application open if it has been greater than 24 hours since the last run). It would run through all the items in the Trashes and actually delete the items that are older than the Preference length of time to keep items from the “dateMovedToTrash” field. And the progress could be shown in the Activity Viewer window. This could even put up a modal progress dialog for a short period of time if need be…
Seems like the first time it actually deletes a bunch of items it might take a while, but from then on it should be pretty quick, only having to delete as many items as would have been put in the trash in a day.
I’m sure I am probably missing something and making this much more simple than it is…

How about empty deleted box overnight? It has been suggested before.
David
Delete is pretty fast for me even when running 300 or so. It takes a second or 2 of spinning ball but not bad. Not to denigrate your problem but what if you were to choose say 1000 or 10000 to delete when you are going to be away overnight from the computer and GS can take its time to empty the trash? If “Date ended” was added to menu items then you could sort the file to be deleted to choose the listings to trash.
That’s not a bad idea!!! Actually, it is a pretty good idea!
And if “End Date” and “in Trash” were added to the Smart Groups, I could set up a Smart Group to show me all my “listings that are in the trash and over 6 months old”!
Then, if I could “manually Delete selected listings immediately” (which is currently grayed out) that are in the Trash folder, this would work fine…
And the same for Orders also…

My trash is always empty. I am afraid of mistakenly start a double listing, so every time I move sometimes to the trash or I have under my hands something wrong, I immediately trash it and empty the bin.
I read your idea of “dateMovedToTrash”. Well, there is just one thing you should keep in consideration if developing this feature for automatic cancellation. If I mistakenly move to trash a listing that is not to delete, I am afraid it is marked with a “dateMovedToTrash” although it I then move it outside from the bin and keep it between valid ones. So I am afraid it might be cancelled automatically only because I moved it to the trash by mistake. This feature should be somehow switched on and off to avoid problems, not always on.
I would find very useful an option to check if in the order trash there are paid orders. Sometimes the function for combining orders has a bug (happens very randomly by the way…) that moves the good order to the trash and keeps the exact (invalid) copy of that order between those good. The problem is that when the buyer pays, the order in the trash is marked as paid, while the other one not. It means that this order will not appear in the Smart Folder for orders to prepare, and I risk to miss it when I close envelopes and ship. The only solution, after marking as shipped all orders of the day, is going to ebay and check if there are still others pending to be shipped. I already got a few defect for late shipping due to this bug… but unfortunately I still can’t reproduce it. It happens few times and in different situations…
I agree!
I would whole heartedly support a feature that a running listing NEVER be allowed to be put in the trash. Can any describe a situation that would favor a running listing be put in the trash or a running listing be deleted? GS should NEVER allow a running listing to be trashed. A listing should be ended and then trashed to remove it from GS. This would prevent accidents and double listings from being created.
A popup or warning that says “running listings must be ended first” would help solve the issue of running listings in the trash.
How about adding a generic Smart Group Rule for “any parent group/folder name” is/is not “xyz”???
