Accidentally marking an item paid on GS

I have accidentally manually marked an item paid by clicking on this box by accident. Used to be the area where it said Invoice Sent or similar.

The problem is that once you mark it paid, it right away sends it to the site that it was paid when it wasn’t and there is no unmarked paid allowed on the site or on the app.

The sale has to be cancelled at this point. As the buyer can’t make a payment anymore.

Please don’t send this info right away to the main site in case its manually marked by accident. Its very dangerous to put it there to be honest. There is bound for accidental clicking in this area. Once its done, the site doesn’t allow you to unmarked it as paid. It sends it in a split second. Creates a mess. Yes, its my fault, but it should be done with a pop up warning perhaps that can be toggled on or off in case its clicked by accident.

The site took off the ability to unmark it paid. Its paid for good and the buyer can’t make a payment after this point if you marked it paid by accident.

I absolutely agree with you. Not only everything you reported is correct, there is also another very bad matter about this issue. In a fraction of second ebay detracts fees from your fund if you click on that button. A wrong click and you see bunch of money leaving your funds, although payment is not received. That button should be moved somewhere else as far as possible.

Thanks for your feedback, glad to know I am not the only one here with the same situation.

I’ve done this twice now by accident. Not intentional and its maddening.

Site told me to cancel the sale completely. Buyer can’t even pay, I’ve asked the buyer to try to pay and they have no option to pay anymore.

The site changed and removed the unmarked paid option. You used to be able to change it.

Yea, very dangerous button on GarageSale, please consider moving it elsewhere tucked away or at least with a prompt or pop up warning.

Surprised how fast it sends the notice to the site.

Thank you!

How about a “5 seconds to undo” label appearing, once you clicked on the “paid image”. This would give you 5 seconds to uncheck the box before GarageSale would actually send the information to eBay?

I would add a warning saying something like “are you really sure to mark as paid?”. There is already that kind of warning for other actions. This way, there is no limited time to avoid it.

By the way, off topic, I would add this warning also when you try to delete item specifics. Very problematic if you mistakenly cancel one personalized item specific, you cannot undo or add it again in the same position, or worse you can delete them all by pressing the minus icon. This is just an idea…

Merry Christmas!

That would work (anything would tbh) but I think maybe a prompt that requires a click would be good. You can then check another box to never be bothered by this again in case some people don’t want to be bothered by it.

Its just that the site not allowing one to unmark it paid after accidentally marking it paid is very troublesome because the only recourse is to void the sale at that point and the buyer is confused why it was marked paid when he/she knows they haven’t paid. Then one has to explain to them the error and its just a mess.

I blame the site more than Garagesale for this. I am astonished how fast it sends this paid thing from the Garagesale app to the site, in like 1-2 seconds. Always thought it would take a few minutes for things to process from GS to the site. So you try to uncheck it and its too late. lol

Marking something paid manually is pretty rare, we all have to allow the site to process the payment or payments, so unless its a local pickup, this button should be kinda hidden a bit, maybe inside the 2nd page of the inspector or something but yea a pop up or a 1-5 minute timer or alert would be better than how its now. I think 5 seconds is too short of a time frame.

That box used to be the box where it said something like SENT AN INVOICE or something like that, so that’s where my mind accidentally pressed that box out of muscle memory. Now I’m very careful not to even get on that page for fear my reflexes sees it unchecked and wants to check it thinking its the invoice sent box. lol

Thanks ilja and co.

Merry Christmas to all.

I have never personally used this but minutes would seem a better delay. Slow servers and even slower brains would make 5 seconds a bit short. :slightly_smiling_face:

Actually, you could just press Command-Z do undo a previous delete operation, but I added a warning panel in the latest beta nonetheless.
