Blurry photo in Edit mode

Using GS 9.9.1 under macOS 14.7.4.

When in Editor Mode, and after dragging photos to the Drop Zone, the images show up as blurry. Double clicking them to open the photo editor shows the images as sharp. Is there any way to fix this? See screenshots below. Thanks.

Can you please replay back with the original image attached, so we can investigate what’s causing the blur?

My guess is that it has something to do with a non-standard (72dpi) resolution used by the original file.

You are correct - it is 72DPI. I use Hazel in combination with JPEGmini to reduce the file size as well as remove GPS metadata from my eBay files [since I host them on a WebDAV server and I realized a few years ago, those images had that embedded in it, and would prefer not to let eBay users see where I live. ]. I just re-generated the image for that listing and attached here. It is 3024x3024 pixels at 72DPI. What DPI should I be using for GS instead?

Your image looks good (at least for me) in Edit mode here.

What image size settings are you using when uploading to your WebDav server?

PS: The wording in my earlier post was not clear. 72 dpi is the setting that should give you the least trouble.

Interesting. I wonder why it looks good when you add it on your copy of GS. I am using a theme - Pro Package. Making the GS window size larger will change the look of the page a bit, but keeps the image quality quite blurry. I use GS next to another app so I don’t have it set to be full screen. When using the Live view [this listing has been posted], the size of the image is the same, but it is tack sharp.

Screen shots of some settings:

What size are you resizing the image to in Hazel? Is that the 1920 Ă— 1920 like in the image you sent me?

No resizing. Hazel strips the metadata and sends the image to an app called JPEGmini Pro which shrinks the file size without quality issues or changing the resolution. [it is an expensive app I’ve used for years for my photography biz when posting jpg’s online - keeps the file size down so they download quicker for people viewing them].

The Road Cycling image is 3024x3024

What happens if you switch to eBay’s or GarageSale’s image service in the GarageSale preferences > eBay > eBay Images? (just for test purposes) Does the image then look better in Preview mode?

I checked your live listing and the as you said the image looks super sharp there.

Any chance you can provide us with the original 3024px image (after using Hazel and JPEGmini), maybe by first zipping it before posting it here?

I did provide the full image before, but maybe the forum software shrunk it. I’ll attach a zip of it here. Yeah, I have noticed this problem for a while [but not since using GS - it was an update that may have affected it, but it’s been a while so honestly I can’t say which update :frowning: ]. I immediately checked the live listings when it started to happen. It’s mostly a visual issue in GS and one reason why I brought it up is that I actually had an out of focus image and didn’t notice it, since I was used to the blur!

I’ll do a listing today with GS’s free service and see. It happens the moment I drag the images to the drop zone.

attached the zipped up version of the image…
IMG_6544.jpg.zip (860.2 KB)

EDIT: I do see that the forum software shrunk the image to 1920x1920 when I uploaded it the first time. :frowning: So hopefully the zipped up one will be 3024x3024

Thank you for uploading the original photo. Even with that original one and an “optimized” version of it I wasn’t able to reproduce any blur in Preview mode. Maybe there is anything different/non-standard about your system or hardware?
I am using a M1 MacBook Pro with macOS 15.4, no system or Safari extensions installed.

Can you export and zip one of the listings in questions? Just curious if I can see that blur then. (You can send it to me via direct message if you don’t want to share it here.)

I’ll send that to you via DM right now [been doing a bunch of red tape work today and not yet listed an item to test the GS image hosting to see if that solves it]. File is 6.1mb zipped up.

EDIT: macOS 14.7.4 on M2 Max Mac Studio with a lot of Safari extensions installed [does that affect GS??].

Thank you for sending the listing. I am attaching a screenshot - all images look sharp here. No blur at all.

For test purposes you can switch to GarageSale’s or eBay’s image service, restart GarageSale and then check the images in Preview mode once again. There is no need to actually start the listing because the images in the live listing look fine, right?
Once done just switch back to your WebDav server.

Will do! I will test that out today - I got busy yesterday and didn’t get a chance. :frowning: But one thing I noticed from your screenshot that is different is the inclusion of the “Made with GS” footer. I guess that is a preference which had me wondering if there might be another preference that is causing this [either global or theme - when I exported my listing, was my theme’s preferences sent with that export?]

You can select the GarageSale footer in the GarageSale preferences > General. But no, it doesn’t cause any problems.

Wow…what a difference! I opened the Road Cycling book listing up in Editor Mode, opened preferences up, and changed to use your free service, and 1600x1200 as the max size. The preview image in the listing sharpened up a TON.

Went back to my WebDAV server, and keeping it at 1600x1200 the image is still sharp. As soon as I pick “use original size”, the image blurs.

Is there anything else I can try, settings wise, to fix this issue so that I can still use the original size and my WebDAV server? Thanks!

I also tried it here with the “use the original size” but your images still look sharp here. It must have anything to do with your system but I am a bit clueless.
You earlier wrote that the images look fine in your live listing so maybe you can just ignore the blur issue you have in Preview mode only?

You mentioned that system extensions [can you give me an example of where I might find those - a hidden directory?] and Safari extensions might have something to do with it. I know how to disable Safari extensions to test that out [I was not aware that Safari extensions would affect GS - I have a fair number of them].

Any chance I can do something to troubleshoot this?
