Copy/Paste style keyboard shortcut?

I can see the functions to Copy/Paste sent Styles are in Garage Sale under Format / Fonts.

Is there a keyboard shortcut for this? If not, this would be a great feature to add.

For another feature request, I would like to request the ability to copy text into Item specifics from Title or description. for some reason I can copy/paste text into Item specifics from text copied outside of GarageSale but not text copied from inside the app.

Hit “command and C” keys simultaneously for copy and “command V” for paste. I do it all the time in GS. These also work in item specifics if you select “add a custom detail” first to get a blank item detail to paste into.

Sure, but try Cmd+C text from the listing Title or Description and Cmd+V into Item Specifics. It can’t be done. Only when coping text from outside of GarageSale can you copy/paste into Item Specifics.

Also Keyboard shortcuts for Copy/Paste style would be very helpful (Option + Command + C) Like most Apple apps use.

I sell trading cards. So the Title is 90% of the Item Specifics and Description. If I have to type the same thing 3 times over again it’s a waste of time.

Text fields in GS do not behave like normal macOS text fields, much to my frustration. It takes several tries for a copy/paste procedure to work. Keep trying the keyboard shortcuts and eventually they will work. The problem seems to be that putting the cursor into most text fields in GS, the focus is lost for a bit, so a paste won’t work. You have to keep clicking into the field and wait to see the cursor stay. Then you know it is safe to copy and paste.

The listing description, select all is 100% broken if you have multiple paragraphs. Only way that works is to click several times to gain focus, then use the mouse/trackpad to select all, as the command-A keyboard shortcut only works for the first paragraph.

I’m hoping that future versions of GS will use standard text input boxes that behave normally. In the meantime, it is a very laborious process to copy/paste or type into the fields.

I too have noticed this, especially old listings that were duplicated many hundreds or thousands of times. “New ebay listing”, command N, or freshly started from the design store don’t have this issue. An episode of Star Trek called it “replicative fading” where mistakes creep in from many duplications. Try a fresh copy, command N.
My copy paste from the title or description works 100% of time. I am running a very stable 12.7.6 on a 2015 machine. My only complaint is the line spacing in the description has glitches that won’t correct, I prefer a “change line height” of 2.0 and it never is

I just tried command C on a listing. All of the title or any part of it works perfectly. Perhaps a setting in your preferences is not set to do keyboard shortcuts? I am running 12.7.6 and keyboard shortcuts needs to be set up on the program I am running to do some specific keyboard shortcuts

Try copying the listing Title into the Item Specifics. The issue isn’t Copy/Paste doesn’t work in GS, its that it doesn’t work in Item Specifics and style copy paste is inconsistent as well.

Sadly you are correct - command-N works, but it won’t ever work for my use case. :frowning: I’m mostly a books/media seller and I use a Pro Template and have about 25 or so templates that are setup with attributes, shipping info, condition info, description footers, etc, etc for each of the templates. It speeds up the data entry process [I use a separate inventory app to maintain inventory since I sell across multiple Marketplaces and copy/paste info into GS from there, doing some formatting sometimes of descriptions [adding bold, etc]. Creating a new record from scratch would take me longer than searching eBay’s website and picking “sell similar”.

I do 100s of duplicates per week from my templates. Ideally having a way to get this proper behavior to stick with these existing templates would be ideal. I have over a million records in my inventory app which contains about 64 fields, and those fields have never exhibited this issue.

Until a year or so ago, I was also on macOS 12 on a 2015 very stable machine but now I am on macOS 14 on a 2023 Mac Studio with dual screens [which brings out other bugs in GS unfortunately :frowning: ]. I have a backup system running macOS 15 on an M1 MacBook Air, and another machine in a remote location runs on an Intel Mac mini that’s maxed out at macOS 12, but 3-way syncing between the Air, Studio, and mini doesn’t work, so I no longer use GS on that system [it is primarily used for shipping from the remote location and my inventory app syncs fine so I use my Studio version of GS to do any order updates in the inventory app locally].

I’ve probably not done a command-N in years on GS. Not since discovering templates and auto-filling all the attributes based on UPC/ISBN barcode. Other attributes that aren’t filled in by the barcode scanner are built into each template [so I have templates for fiction, non-fiction, bulk lots, etc, with different info assigned to Store Categories, Attributes, Shipping weight/dimensions, etc].

Item Specifics are also called Attributes in the sidebar and in that area, I have been able to copy and paste. Eg: Book Author - I have that info in my database and normally it is auto-populated by a barcode scan, but if I am selling a book that is very old, I have to input the info manually. I do it once - in my inventory app, and then copy and paste the attributes like author, binding [called format by ebay], and other info, into GS using the Attributes pop-up panel on the right column.

Wow, I just tried the Item Specifics popup to copy/paste… And it works!! Im surprised it works, but I’ll take it!
Duel monitors would be a huge help. Might force me to upgrade from a 2017 iMac.

Thanks for the help!

Sorry, I wasn’t being specific enough. Start with a NEW and copy paste into it. There is coding(I think) that gets corrupted over 100’s or thousands of duplications the gets refreshed by starting a new every now and again. I am a hunt and peck typer so I am always looking for the shortest way to type. It might help you with the glitches. If I get a particular listing that just wont cooperate I do a fresh copy and that most always cleans up the issue. I never do this unless something squirrelly pops up.
I am on a 2015 iMac that likely will blow the fusion drive very soon since they last 5 years and Apple wont fix it so I’m on borrowed time.

Are you opening a “Custom Detail” panel first to paste into? Have you seen the “copy item specifics” and “paste item specifics”?

Oh, no, I understood what you meant - a brand new listing [command N] - copy paste works great - text fields are not glitchy. The issue is I have a large number of templates I use for my listings and just duplicate the templates [the templates do not have any content in the listings - other than the name of the template as the title, “text here” as the listing description, etc.

Here is something else to try on a sample. The “remove formatting” button. Sometimes it clears listing issues.

Can you maybe use the “Paste and Match Style” command from GarageSale’s Edit menu for that?

Does this maybe work better for you if you use a third party menu bar clipboard tool like “Flycut”?:
