eBay Motors Return Warning Finally Showed Up

Verified a listing of parts today on eBay Motors and got a warning regarding eBay’s “new” policy regarding returns and guaranteed fit.

It mentioned I needed to update my return policies and some other nonsense.

I previously listed items on eBay Motors this year and this error did not show up even though this was suppose to take place by July 15 according to eBay.

This will effectively kill off selling any type of vintage auto parts.

In many cases you have a vintage part with its original packaging consisting of a box, bag, or just a manilla tag attached with a bit of wire. The packaging can include one or more part numbers, some of which can be hand written, rewritten and older part numbers crossed out.

Part manufacturers from time to time revamp their part numbering system so the numbers on the packaging of a part could have been replaced multiple times in the decades since it was made. In some cases the original manufacturer is no longer in business and you need to find vintage publications.

There may or may not be interchange references listing what number or numbers have replaced the original part number.

All one had to do is simply describe the part and take good pictures without doing any research. Research was up to the buyer who knew a lot more about the vehicle they were buying parts for as part of a restoration.

Not worth wasting the time doing the research, especially when buyers can return item just because they have buyer’s remorse.

Buyers can no say goodbye to many hard to find vintage parts only found at local estate auctions.

I listed the item on the main eBay site in a related category, but no ideal category, to avoid the eBay Motors return.

Now instead of turning to eBay to sell vintage and antique parts I sell them at a swap meet.
