GarageSale 7 Beta 36 Released

Dear GarageSale Users,

Beta 36 of GarageSale 7 is available for you to download from this URL (or by using the built-in updater if you are already running an earlier beta version GS 7):

In case you are planning to use this GarageSale Beta release in production, please make sure you have working have a backup system (e.g. Time Machine) in place.

What’s new since the last Beta release

  • added support for item attributes that allow multiple values and offer suggestions from eBay. A table view with combo boxes is shown in these cases, e.g. for the ‘Style’ attribute in the Music > Records category
  • re-listed listings are shown immediately in the outline view after the re-list command finished. Previously you had to switch to a different section, e.g. orders, and switch back to listings to make them visible
  • added a “Ignore Future warnings like this” command to the context menu (right-click) for warnings returned by eBay during listing verification. After using it, GarageSale will not show the ignored warning the next time it is returned by eBay
  • the “New Scheduler Event” command from the ‘+’ button in the toolbar now correctly determines the selected listings. Previously it would always use the selection from the outline view, even if the overview (middle section of the window) was the active view (blue selection highlight)
  • when duplicating previously started listing when creating an event or starting listings, the order of the original selection is preserved
  • added a “Reveal Original” command to the outline view context menu when a smart group item is selected. Using that command, you can easily jump to the original item of an item shown in the smart group, for instance to delete it or move it to a different folder
  • fixed a bug where variation images weren’t deleted from a listing when the respective variation was deleted
  • fixed a crash when trying to start a listing that was already started
  • return policy, payment options, and tax settings can be specified in GarageSale’s XML import format
  • improved user interface when leaving feedback for multiple transactions in the Feedback panel
  • added an “Select All” command to the context menu in the overview (right-click)

What’s new in GarageSale 7

  • completely modernized interface with instant error reporting
  • can import listing drafts from the GarageSale Scout app on iPhone
  • a new custom database engine, which hopefully deals better with large amounts of data and allows us to adapt to eBay changes more quickly
  • GarageSale 7 does away with the template/auction differentiation - it only offers listings, which can either be running or not
  • a new Orders sections which shows information about purchased items and buyers
  • Reports can generate diagrams in addition to text tables
  • automatic update of eBay category information as needed
  • listing design are now optimized for mobile devices
  • local live validation of most eBay errors in new “Preflight” panel
  • listing images can be edit using image editing apps installed on your Mac and with image editing extensions
  • listing images can be copied and pasted between images
  • support for barcodes on the variation level
  • you can copy specific settings from one listing and paste them into other listings
  • added a preference setting ‘Load Flash’ to prevent Flash plugin crashes
  • inventory items can be exported and imported
  • you can now set the quantity of 'Good ‘til cancelled’ listings to zero to mark the item “out of stock” (you need to enable the ‘Out of Stock’ feature in your selling preferences on eBay’s website)
  • when selling cars on eBay Motors or eBay UK, there is no a dedicated field for the vehicle ID (VIM or VRM)
  • the ‘Import from My eBay’ command now downloads large images from existing eBay listings
  • can automatically generate SKU for your variations
  • much more

Migrating from GarageSale 6

  • GarageSale 7 has a new application identifier and uses its on database and 'Application Support folders, so you can run it along side GS 6 without side-effects
  • it should import your GS 6 library and your accounts (this process may take a while upon first launch)

How to import your GarageSale 6 library again

Sometimes there a bugs discovered and fixed in the component that migrates your GarageSale 6 library to GarageSale 7’s new format. If the bug effects you, here is how to run to import process again:

  1. Export any listing you created in GarageSale 7 and want to keep
  2. Quit GarageSale 7
  3. Rename the folder at ‘Library/Containers/com.iwascoding.garagesale7’ in your home directory to something like ‘com.iwascoding.garagesale7-old’
  4. Restart GarageSale 7
  5. Import any listings you exported in step #1

What’s still missing

  • localized user interface for languages other than English
  • a user manual
  • fixes for yet undiscovered bugs

Thanks for using GarageSale,
Ilja on behalf of the iwascoding team

Where have my templates gone, I just updated only to see all my templates for all the listings have gone. and can not see any templates need to update listings but I have no templates on any iitems or all settings for template.

I’m using GarageSale 7 because GarageSale 6 is giving me an error message when I try to verify my templates that:

The format of the PayPal email address is not valid. Enter a valid email address.

This is strange since the identical format seems to work in v7.

In v7, though, if I verify one of my listings then I get a positive message. But if I then try to verify any other listing, the verification message seems to relate only to the first listing I verified. So I think something is not working here.

It would be great if you could help me to get either v6 or v7 working. Thank you.

All listing designs are gone. I used Time Machine and went back to B35

There is probably an extra line or invisible character in the PayPal field in the GarageSale Preferences>Accounts. In most cases this can be solved, by clicking on the PayPal field, pressing Command-A followed by the Delete key and re-entering the data.

Regards, Kristian

Thanks for the heads up. We pulled B36 for now and are looking into the issue.

Thanks for getting back to me. I’ve tried your suggestion. The strange thing is that if, in Preferences/Accounts/PayPal I ‘Test Paypal Connection…’ I get a PayPal Test Passed message. But when I go to verify a template, I still that message:

The format of the PayPal email address is not valid. Enter a valid email address.

Can you offer any other suggestions?

How many eBay account do you have in GarageSale? Is it possible that GarageSale is using a different eBay account than you would think?

I have just the one account so that would not explain things. Sorry, Philip

In GarageSale there’s only one place where you can enter your PP email address. There must be still something wrong with your address input there.
Also, it would be helpful to know when you get that eBay error (and what the full message is). Does it happen during a revise or relist?
However, do you still need to list with GarageSale 6? Maybe you can already switch to GarageSale 7?

Regards, Kristian
