GS Has Been Going Haywire!

GS was unused for several months during a major move across the country. When I opened it back up to start selling again, strange things were happening. There were big gaps of space between my items in the price tag column. Many listings were duplicated in this column with the pictures gone. The corrupted duplicates were mixed up with the good ones and I had to go through each item individually to find the good ones and relist them.

The large gaps eventually disappeared on their own but problems keep happening.

The colors were not correctly representing the item’s status. Sold items were changed to unsold and more importantly, sold items were changed to unsold which led to me listing items that I didn’t have.

It has taken several months to get these problems worked out, all but one.

Why is GS putting another set of pictures below the listing and outside of the design window? There is a set inside my Carbon Fiber window and then another set below it. I did not put them there and it is on every item. I have about 1800 items listed.

Every single item gets the eBay error message of – Your listing contains image links that will not be allowed (at some point). GS is putting these in. I have no idea how to fix this. I’ve been through the settings so many times and I don’t see how to fix it. I am not that computer literate enough to change coding.

A new problem started today. I changed a title in the design window but it did not change in the column under the price tag. Nor did the title change in the eBay listing.

Another problem that I noticed is that GS has deleted the price that I paid for, what seems to be, randomly selected items. I didn’t catch this at first but it does mean that I have to go through all my items again one at a time to correct all these errors. I am extremely upset about GS right now.

I have been fighting with GS ever since this move. I have the latest update but I am getting very stressed out over all these problems all of a sudden. It does not make sense.

Is there a problem with OS Sequoia 15.6 that I don’t know about??

There are no known issues with macOS Sequoia 15.6 and GarageSale. My guess is that the issues you described are late effects of a) the “cleaner” app that deleted (part of?) your GarageSale and b) the other problem you had in the past with importing listings from eBay.

It sounds to me as if all the problems you describe are related to listings that you imported from eBay.
The problem with these imported listing is that they have the code of the initial design and (old) image URLs directly included in the item description section.

That’s why you are not able to edit the description, images, design and design properties as you are used to it.

The next time you import listings from eBay, make sure that “Remove design from description” is enabled as described in the help:
https://manual.iwascoding.com/gs8/en/Listings_Section-Importing_from_eBay.html

The images that are added below the listing description/design are the actual images you added to the listing. You can see them by switching to GarageSale’s Editor Mode.

Solution
You have two options:

  1. You create brand new listings from scratch. You can transfer the images from the old listings by using copy & paste.
  2. You “clean” the item description so you can select a design and edit the description and the images as usual. This is one way to do this:
  • In Preview mode copy the whole text from the item description (cmd-c)
  • Switch to Editor mode, clear/delete the item description field there.
  • Paste in the previously in step #1 copied text (cmd-v).
  • Switch back to Preview mode. You can format your item description text here and also select a design as usual.

This will generate clean content and use the latest design version and image links when you upload the listing to eBay.

You might want to try this with one single listing first. Doing this with 1800 listings is a challenge, I guess. It might be easier/cleaner to start from scratch but that’s up to you.

Can you post a screenshot or better describe what price you are referring here exactly? Are you maybe referring to the “Item Cost” field?

A Nice Mess reacted to your message:

Kristian, I very much appreciate your time to respond. My GS is so screwed up. The large gaps in my column under the price tag and duplicate, unpictured listings just appeared after I opened GS up after not using it for several months.

Your answer did jar a memory as I have forgotten that I did import from eBay once, something that I had never done before.

I had listed a lot of items on my laptop instead of my desktop computer. It quickly got tedious to work on both so I tried the sync. Of the two choices of sync, neither one is defined in simple terms so I just picked one. It erased all of the listings from one of the computers. I remember now that I did download the active eBay listings. I have never had a need to do that and I will not do that again either!

I apologize, it wasn’t just the program, it was me too. Yes, I do mean the cost of the item was changed to 0.00 on seemingly random items. Even when I synced from laptop to desktop, the listings that were not deleted had the Item Cost set to 0.00.

In my defense, some of this is GS fault! lol
Some was mine I know now. lol

I was hoping to be able to sync between my two computers often but I don’t think that really works. I can’t take the chance on doing it again and losing hundreds of listings.

I’m sorry if I am all over the place, I am really stressed out over this. I am currently just ending the listings and going over each one by one. There is 1800 of them but I have to do it…

Would you please take a moment to explain to me the two choices for syncing? I just do not understand either one.

Again, I apologize for everything except those weird large spaces in between the listings, that one is still GS.

Okay, I apologize to the GS people, some of my problems are from the one time I synced GS to my desktop. I did not understand how to do it and it messed everything up. Most of the problems I am having now are from the import from eBay I did several months ago when the syncing failed. I honestly had forgotten about that mess as it was while I was down and out from knee surgery. I did not understand how to sync and that started a chain reaction that led to the stress, that lead to the post. Kristian explained it fully and now all I need is to learn how to sync. Thanks K.!
