I did it, I upgraded my "eBay computer!"

I keep a second iMac computer at my parents’ house because I do a lot of eBay listing with my Mom as a hobby. In addition, I have my “good iMac” in my home office. I have a FAMILY GarageSale license and have the license document, with codes, from when I registered right here. I hope this is as easy as downloading the program on the new computer, logging in, and following any prompts to get up and running.

I see that I can transfer over the database; that will be great. I also know I can export individual listings, then import them into the program on another machine (I like this method for sharing my unlisted template files one by one if necessary).

What else do I need to do or know to prepare?
Do I have to “deactivate” a code to use it again on new machine?

(In case of any inquiries, I use eBay as a part-time hobby and do not list nearly enough for the Garage Sale Pro version, although that sync feature seems very enticing.

Thanks!

Sounds good. That’s all there is to consider, I think. No need to “deactivate” anything, you just will need to add/refresh your eBay accounts on your new Mac. That can be done in the GarageSale Settings > Accounts as usual.

got the new (refurbished) iMac!
Downloaded GS app
Airdropped the license info from one iMac to the other (this is like the best modern feature to be able to do this)
Activated license, and looks like I’ll be good to go

(( I will need to grab the database and transfer that over; I would love to have my library of listings since many of my items more or less repeat themselves so I often use the duplicate feature ))

I think maybe in the HELP / FAQ section there were instructions, so I’ll do that this weekend.

In FAQ #29 (and #30) you find detailed instructions what to do:

(you have to scroll down a bit there)

ok ha, it didn’t work. Or it worked, and it wasn’t what I had expected.
I was hoping to copy the database from the old machine to the new one; then reopen GS on the new machine and magically have all my files and listings there. None were.

My old machine is running 10.13.6 so the folder structure was different, but the terminal search was perfect to find the folder. It was located under com.iwascoding.garagesale9

It was 18GB so I put that on external drive to move over, was easy enough and I do that often if things don’t fit on my cloud.

Seems like everything overwrote everything else inside the folder fine. I couldn’t copy the whole folder it had to be the contents since the folder name (as mentioned) varies.

When I opened GS it was still totally empty of listings.

Let me try and do it again

update! Everything is there now.
I re-copied the database from the external drive onto the new comp as an OVERWRITE (the prior time it prompted me to “merge” and I think I selected that).
