Not synchronization , sync error

Hello,

I am synching two computers.
One is iMac that stays powered on all the time and the second is a macbook that obviously does not stay powered on all the time.
iMac is a primary computer for GS and macbook secondary.

When I modify or change anything on either of these computers, nothing syncs.
Tried “Synching > Synchronize now” but nothing happens.

A few days ago I did get a “Synchronization failed” error. I have restarted both Garagesale and iMac (on which I received the error) after that.

Thanks

Do you still get that “Synchronization failed” error? And if so on the iMac or on the Macbook - or both?

No. I only got that error once. On 31 August 2024.
But all sync problems started after this one error I think.

Can you please check if your MacBook is synched now?
As far as I can see it was last synched today around 1 hour ago, that’s why I am asking.

No it is not synced.
Tried to do a manual sync but got error :
“Synchronization busy (conflicted)”
I did not click on resolve conflicts

Feel free to select “Resolve Conflicts”. Maybe there are synching conflicts that need to be resolved first.

OK. So this morning, I clicked on “resolve conflict” and this is where it has been stuck for a few hours now.

Still, not syncing to macbook at all.

It’s odd that the “Deleted Listings” section shows up there. Did you somehow change the position of the trash bin in one of your GarageSale?

Anyway, can you resolve these conflicts by either selecting “Use Version on this Mac” or “Use Version in the Cloud”?

Forgot to mentioned that. I already selected “Use Version on this Mac” few hours ago. It is stuck like that for hours.
Have not changed position of Trash Bin anywhere.

I fear you need to re-do the synching setup then.
This is how to re-do the synching setup:

  1. On both Macs: Export all the listings that are missing on the other Macs (hold down command key to select multiple listing and export in one go)

  2. Make sure you have a current backup of both Macs.

  3. Disable Synching in the GarageSale preferences > Pro an all your Macs. Make sure the latest GarageSale version is installed on all Macs (version 9.8.1)

  4. On your main Mac (iMac): In the GarageSale preferences > Pro re-enable synching. A prompt should appear, please select “Overwrite Data on Server”.
This will trigger the “Initial Upload” which can take several hours.

  5. If the initial upload is completed, you can re-enable Synching on your other Mac (MacBook). This will replace the local data on that Mac with (new) data from the server! That process (initial download) might take a while as well.

  6. Import the exported listing from step #1.

To better understand the synching process, you find an overview and details in the Synching chapter.

Again, please remember to make a system backup before working with the synching feature.

To avoid synching problems in future try to create/edit folders on the main Mac only. Please also have a look at “Notes on handling folders” here.

I followed every step carefully and have re-synced both the computers.

Now, all the data (listings) from the main (iMac) shows up without any errors on the MacBook.

However, still, any new listings that I create on iMac does NOT show up on MacBook despite forcing sync (and vice versa).

GarageSale creates logs of the synching activities and saves it in a “SynchLog.txt” file. Could you send us that “SynchLog.txt” file?

These are the required steps:

  1. Open GarageSale on your main Mac.

  2. From GarageSale’s Help select “Open Library Folder”

  3. Locate the “SynchLog.txt” file there, compress (zip) it and post it here. If it’s larger than 10 MB please upload it to DropBox or send it via WeTransfer: http://www.wetransfer.com/
