Placeholder ghosts

I found one of these placeholder ghosts in my listings so I went through everything and found a total of 4. No amount of deleting gets rid of them and only dragging to the trash moves them. I forget what keys to hold down to rebuild indexes or children or orphans or whatever you call them. Want to report before they run away and load up my listings with more.

Could it be that these probably are just regular listings (without title), no “ghost” listings?

I tried to “create” a regular one without a title. I don’t get the “Lorem ipsum eum…….” stuff. I duplicated an existing listing and removed the title. But categories, shipping, pictures, ect are still there. I also got the dotted line button. So I tried to add “a new ebay listing”. I also got one with the dotted line button with a tag, and a temporary title from my master listing saved in the preferences. Here is a screen shot of my trash can with the different types of listings in there. The 4 completely blank are the ones I am asking about.

Thank you for postings the screenshot. These empty entries without a listing icon and title are definitely “ghost” items, you are right.

It’s worth a try to let GarageSale’s repair mechanism run. This is how:

  1. Start GarageSale and immediately click and hold down the control-key on your keyboard.

  2. A small window should appear allowing you to enable “debug options”.

  3. Select “Rebuild indexes”, “Repair hierarchy”, and “Find orphaned listings”, then hit Continue.

  4. Give GarageSale some time to startup.

  5. Hopefully you’ll be lucky and your left sidebar will be back to normal. Check if a “Lost & Found” group has been created at the bottom of the left sidebar.

I ran the repair. It took 3 minutes to complete. The ghosts are in the trash yet. I assume the repair doesn’t empty those and that is normal. I’ll report back in the future if they return.

As always, Thanks for the speedy help! :slightly_smiling_face:

Not to hijack the thread, but quick question on “rebuild indexes” - is that an okay/recommended thing to do even if one is not having outwardly facing issues like @rlmartin had? Same question for the Rebuild hierarchy option as well.

Thanks!

@vjl As far as I am aware, you should only use the “Debug Options” if you are actually have issues with the GarageSale database. If everything is fine, do better not use these options.
