"Show in finder" GS 9.9.1 only showing folder, not specific file

I don’t know since when it’s doing this but when I right click on a photo and choose “Show in finder”, it opens the “Finder” screen with the “ImageLibrary” folder selected but no specific file and there’s about 5000 items in it.

I use this function to choose specific photos from the Ebay listing to cross list on Etsy since I edit the photos via GS and etsy has 10 pictures while eBay 24.

Is this a bug on my own machine or is the function broken in my version?

Is there a workaround?

Thank you for your assistance!

I just tried the “Show in finder” command here but for me it worked as expected.

Where exactly in GarageSale do you select that command and what version of macOS do you use?

Also, are you really sure that no image has been selected in that “ImageLibrary” folder? You can select “Show Status Bar” from the Finder’s View menu to check if a file is selected.

It’s nice to know about this function. Does this file ever empty or does it continue to keep photos as long as a sold item is in GS? The file on my computer is 300 GB and I am looking to upgrade to a new computer and new computers have a tiny HD so this would fill an internal HD just by itself.

My ImageLibrary folder has 269,956 items in it for 158.9 GB.
My ImageThumbnailLibrary folder has 171,005 items in it for 3.13 GB.

Hello, I tried another listing and this one worked. It seems that it works for the new listings created with the latest version but other older listings do not show up.

My guess is that somehow, the database might have corrupted at some time, I redownloaded the database from online and it probably did not have those older listings images in it but the listing is still active.

If this is not a correct hypothesis, then somehow, you magically fixed the problem!

Once you “stop” a listing, then “delete” that listing and purge the “deleted listings”… I don’t know if the images associated with them are automatically deleted.

It would be logical to delete the images associated with a listing that you’re deleting completely from the library, but I don’t know 100%.

I have about 250 active listings with about 20 pictures each and the disk space is 5.22Gb but I can see how 2500 listings @ 50+GB would be a problem for a computer with a 256GB SSD.

I’m guessing that this would be a use-case for a light portable hard drive of 500gb+/1TB or to get a bigger hard drive to start.

I upgraded to a newer laptop with 512gb drive and then started doing video editing and I regret my choice. heh… portable SSD was a life saver.

Kristian, In the interest of reducing the size of GS library for future upgrade to a new computer, I used the “show in finder” option to find the pictures in the library. On one sample listing, I deleted all but one since I want to keep the record for future use for new listings. A neat thing happens… The pictures removed are still showing as a thumbnail even after emptying the trash. The one last picture that I didn’t hit delete on is still showing full size. Since Apple is making SSD so small perhaps there is some interest among users to have an easy way to remove all but one picture to keep the library size smaller and still have a long term record of items sold. A note on my screen shot… only the one framed in blue is still in my library.

I’m a little late to the conversation but I’d like to add my suggestion based on how I handle cross-posted items.

I keep a separate image folder on my iMac with all eBay images. I recommend taking the time to rename these files whatever it’s a photo of, and make them chronological (Tip: you can create a super easy script in Automator for this)

When I list something in GS I simply drag and drop those images into the GS listing.
Whether I do the crossposting at the same or a different time, I copy and paste the text from the GS listing into the other platform, but still drag and drop the images from that computer folder (rather than try to extract them or find them within the GS program)

Works really easily!

(I don’t know if I can comment on how much storage GS is probably using for “old listing” images… Probably an absolute ton! In theory, I don’t need any those GS listing images bc I keep a copy on my machine. Eventually, I delete those too. Who needs photos of items I sold 5 years ago?! I’ll tackle that some other time…)

I realize we’re multi-tasking conversations in this one thread … however, yikes that’s serious storage space for images and imageThumbnails!! :grimacing:

What is the consensus on deleting items in these folders? Mine is also utilizing a lot of space now that I knew to check. Can I sort by Date Modified and just delete old stuff?? As mentioned in another reply I keep an outside folder of all my Images sorted that I will probably never need but I have (because what’s the chance I need to reuse an image from a listing sold in 2022?!).

Thanks!
