"This P&A listing requires a minimum 30-day return period"

I started to get this message “This P&A listing requires a minimum 30-day return period” when listing something on “eBay Motors USA” site. Well, after listing I can open this listing on eBay and disable returns and eBay does not complain. The same goes for creating a new “eBay Motors USA” listing - I can disable returns right from the start, no problem. Why is GS giving me this error when listing and changing my return policy then? eBay bug or GS bug?

Its been a while since I listed parts on eBay.

When I did it was some new old stock parts in the box or with a parts tag attached.

I never included any information on what the part might fit. I did not use eBay’s catalog to list the part. Any minimum item attributes would be “N/A” or something similar as I do not use item attributes.

I simply listed a description of the item and any part numbers or other information easily viewed on the item or its packaging.

Does your listing include any input that suggests to the buyer what it might fit that would trigger some type of alert from eBay?

If eBay is requiring a 30 day return for a part for which you list no data pertaining to what the parts fits they have basically killed listing parts. No way would I be paying for return shipping or accepting parts back, especially electric parts which can easily be fried due to improper installation or in the case of a starter motor have their innards swapped out by the buyer.

I dug up one of my last car parts listing form 2021 for 1940s automobiles.

I do not use any attributes. The description just lists the part number and a statement that this part was issued by Ford for select 1949 passenger cars that the buyer will need research what specific models its fits on their own. There is disclaimer that I do not provide any guarantee as to what models the parts will fit and all are untested.

I verified the listing and did an initial launch of the listing, but did not actually list it. GS said it was good to go. I changed the category several times, but could not get any error.

What category are you using?

Please note that this eBay message is returned and generated by the eBay server (not by GarageSale).
My guess is that your return settings/return profile somehow triggers this message. Do your return settings/profile maybe need to be updated?
What you could also do is to just let GarageSale suppress that message by right-clicking on it and then selecting “Ignore future warning like this”.

As of July 15th, 2025 eBay now requires all eBay Motors P&A listings to offer FREE 30 DAY RETURNS (at the expense of the seller! - though eBay is offering to cover 50% of the return shipping costs). I just had my first eBay Motors P&A listing that was returned under this new policy and the moment that the return label was scanned, eBay sent me a refund for 50% of the return shipping costs, which amounted to about $17.44.

That said, I also have noticed that many eBay Motors P&A listings still do not have the 30 day return policy setup and eBay was supposed to have updated all P&A listings to force everyone to adhere to this new policy as of July 15, 2025… but, as you have noticed, you do seem to be able to simply turn off returns via the website. I would imagine that this is a bug that will be patched soon, as these new rules are less than 30 days old at this point.

Hope this helps!
