Update error for 8.1

Trying to update from 8.0.12 to 8.1, I get the error: “You do not have permission to write to the application’s directory. Are you running off a disk image?”

I’m not running off a disk image. 8.x was installed via the updater from 7.x, and it’s in my Applications folder.

If I try to reinstall the update, the Update error changes to: “An error occurred while downloading the update. Please try again later.”

Upon relaunching GS it goes back to the first error.

What’s going on?

I have this same issue. Hoping to hear how to correct this.

Are you using a separate account with administrative privileges to update your Mac’s software?

Also, what happens if you download GarageSale 8.1 from the our website and install it manually? Does the error go away?

Here is the direct download link:

I am not using a separate account.

Manually downloading worked, but it doesn’t tell me what was wrong originally–and so I don’t know if it’ll happen again with the next update.

What version of macOS is your Mac running? Maybe with enough information we can replicate the problem.
